ABOUT US
Dot Griffith and Peg Schroeder became fast friends in 2015 at a birthday lunch for a mutual friend. They shared many common interests, including a shared passion for community and connection, and a desire to bring women together in a meaningful way.
Although they originally considered joining forces with an existing women’s fundraising group, they quickly realized that their true passion lay in making a direct impact on their community. They wanted to ensure that every dollar raised would go straight to local charities, supporting causes close to home rather than funding salaries and budgets of larger organizations elsewhere.
This shift in focus led to countless conversations, through which they realized that their gatherings could be fun and significant. Driven by this idea, they decided to bring women together to share a meal, laughter and good company, while collectively supporting local causes. Their goal was simple: to foster friendships, empower each other, and channel their energies into making a difference in the lives of those around them, through an entirely volunteer organization. This shared vision led to the birth of Giving At Potlucks (GAPs), an organization that is as much about building relationships as it is about giving back, raising consciousness and creating a ripple effect of positivity throughout the community.
Additionally, Dot and Peg felt it was important to set the $10 minimum donation to ensure that every participant knew that attendance at a gathering meant she was expected to make a donation, but also to be sure that those of lesser means would always be included.
